RIMAU DAY 2025
80th Annual Commemorative s/service of Operation Rimau and Commando Day.
President, Phil Ainsworth, Museum Curator Paul Brown and Vice President Bob Collins, attended the 80th Commemorative service on board HMAS Diamantina at the Queensland Maritime Museum.
The service was opened by the Vice President, Graham Gough who welcomed the crowd of about 45. President, Mark Staneig, then gave an address on Operation Rimau.
Chaplain then followed with prayers which were followed by the reading of the names of those lost on Operation Rimau and Commandos lost since the end of World War II.
Then followed the laying of wreaths and our Association President, Phil Ainsworth, laid a wreath on behalf of our Association.
Then followed further prayers, Last Post and Reveille and the singing of the National Anthem.
At the conclusion of the service most adjourned to the Ship Inn for lunch and a get together.

John Schindler and John Thurgar SC. MBE. AM.
John Schindler has previously made a documentary on the New Guinea Volunteer Rifles with assistance from members of out Association and equipment from our museum.
He is currently making a movie on "Operation Copper", a Commando raid on Muschu Island, off the coast from Wewak from which only one member of the raiding party survived. John Thurgar is assisting with this and our Museum Curator, Paul Brown, has been involved with supplying various items of equipment from the museum.
