Getting the Museum ready for showing artifacts
Between late 2005 and the opening of the museum in Feb 2006, a lot of work was required to ensure its readiness.
The building allotted was an Army barracks room, complete with orderly room, still in its original condition. The building had been moved onto the site by the developers of the Wacol Army base but refurbishment was up to the Association. During that short time 13 members of the Association spent days at the task.

The last of the internal walls comes down. The building was built in 1939 and the studs were hardwood, skew nailed. Over the years the wood had dried and the studs had to be taken down with a sledgehammer and axe.
Almost ready on the inside. The walls and windows had been painted, carpet tiles laid on the floor and screens were being prepared.
Outside painting completed, garden beds readied, frame for sign in place.

A rare shot of our photographer Tom Dowling.
Tom was the man behind the lens and, even though he took thousands of photos of Association events, he rarely had a photo taken of himself.
